College Food

Okay. This is going to be a little personal tangent about the food served at my college's cafeteria. First off can you even consider this stuff food? It is so loaded with grease and other undesirable junk that it is probably closer to a petroleum product than something one would consider eating. Immediately upon enter your body this stuff starts ripping you apart. There is a vicious war going on in every students intestinal tract each and every day. I'm sorry, but if these schools want us to start eating healthy, maybe the should offer healthy/edible food. Just my thoughts.

Career Choice: Dentistry

Hello again. As my bio says I am currently working towards a biology major and chemistry minor. Until fairly recently I have been somewhat undecided on what I want to do after I receive my undergrad degree. Now, I have come to the decision that I would like to attend dental school and eventually practice dentistry. The fact that I could maximize my academic potential while getting a job that I think I would thoroughly enjoy is part of why I am leaning towards dentistry. I also like the idea that my job would be to help people in a major way. If there are any people out there with experience in the field of dentistry, I would really appreciate any tips or comments you may have.

Stephen Colbert

I don't know if you have watched Comedy Central lately, but Stephen Colbert's "The Colbert Report" is a great program. You can get all of the latest news from the world and more often the political scene with a witty delivery. Stephen Colbert plays a far right talk show host who has an overpowering love for his country. This show is very entertaining and is also very capable of bringing up important issues. I highly recommend the Colbert Report because one, it brings up important issues and two, you will laugh your head off. Colbert is an excellent satirist who will be around for a long time to come.

Media Coverage is Dissapointing.

So...Britney Spears shaved her own head after the salon owner refused to and I heard that she also was checked into therapy. Spears has also been flashing the paparazzi and getting numerous tattoos. Is it just me or is it completely ridiculous that one, the press covers this story so much and two, the fact that people still buy her merchandise. I find it very sad that when I turn on the t.v. that there is more coverage on the death of Anna Nicole Smith than there was on 9/11. I also find it hard to believe that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie could ever get a television show. Seriously, who watches these programs? People need to get there priorities straight and stop fueling these ridiculous lifestyles and the media's coverage of them.

Gas Prices Jump to $2.55

According to CNN the average price of gasoline is now $2.55, a jump of 20 cents in no time at all. CNN also said that we can expect the prices to go higher now that daylight savings has just kicked in again. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that gas prices can go nowhere but up in the coming months and years. With increasing demand from all around the world, including the most populous nation of China, and turmoil in the major oil-producing countries we are in for some trouble. If anything serious happens in the middle-east, especially in Iraq, Iran, or Saudi-Arabia, gas prices could easily shoot over $4 a gallon this summer. I personally would like to encourage people to support the development of creating cellulosic ethanol. Producing ethanol from corn is just too inefficient and expensive to maintain long term, but if we could produce this cleaner burning ethanol from some sort of grass we may be able to secure are energy needs at least to some extent. I for one am interested and concerned at how things will turn out.

Movie Review: Ghostrider

I remember reading some of the Ghostrider comics when I was younger, so I decided that I had to go see this film. In general I was a little let down by the film. It was hyped up so much, and it just didn't reach my expectations. There was some decent acting by Nicholas Cage and others, but the movie really lacked substance. It just didn't quite do it for me. I would rate this film a 2/5, but I am glad I saw it just because of the fact that I used to read the comics.

Movie Review: 300

Yesterday I headed out to the theatre to catch the new movie "300". I headed in with very high expectations and was fairly pleased upon leaving. This film is about the battle of Thermopylae were a greatly out numbered Greek force held the entire Persian Army at bay. The Greeks inflicted great casualties against the Persians, but finally the Greeks were overrun. When the Greeks find out that they are all about to die, all of the forces except the Spartans retreat. The fight scenes are pretty good and you really get a feel for how fanatical the Spartans really were. However there are some historical inaccuracies, such as monsters, but overall it was a decent film. I give this movie a 3/5 because it was fairly entertaining, but didn't quite do it for me.
